Protectors of the Future, Not Protestors of the Past: Indigenous Pacific Activism and Mauna a Wākea


This essay explores ways Native Pacific activists enact Indigenous futurities and open space to transform present settler colonial conditions. "Our relations with lands and with each other are structured by dominant property regimes that cannot deal with the complexity of our layered and interconnected yet differential interests in the lands on which we reside." The movement to protect Mauna Kea illustrates protection Indigenous relationships through direct action and compassionate engagement with settler-state law enforcement.
